Internal Circulation Catalytic Reactor

CircuBED™ is a reactor developed in-house to measure intrinsic kinetics with the catalyst in motion. The first design is a Berty-type reactor with internal recirculation that switches on-line between batch and continuous operation and between packed and fluidized modes [120, 170] [patent 01, 02]. A second design, obtained through a CFD/CPFD workflow combined with flow visualization and testing, controls the catalyst movement, reduces the reactor volume, and uses a redesigned impeller.

  • Controlled gas-solid contact with fast heat and mass transfer [120, 170]
  • Contact patterns that mimic risers, downers, and CounterDowner™ units [211, 184, 171]
  • Two sampling branches, direct on-line analysis and product collection, to close the mass balance [194]
  • Intrinsic kinetics of shaped catalysts [190, 124]
